The Cumberland YMCA offers a variety of childcare programs for all ages, these programs take place at our 6 childcare locations throughout Cumberland County
 

Preschool Programs

Kindergarten

Preschool For ages 2 1/2 - 3 Years Old. Our Preschool program is focused on socialization with age appropriate activities offered in a play based setting. Children develop skills at their own pace, making decisions, solving problems, and most importantly enjoy the process of learning. Our aim is to provide a program where the child feels save, happy, stimulated and satisfied. This program runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 - 11:00am. Offered at the YMCA in Amherst as well as in Oxford and Pugwash. Childcare For children aged 18 months to 5 years. This program has been designed to encourage socialization with age appropriate activities. Children develop skills at their own pace in areas of creative activities, fine motor, gross motor, music, and movement, science, language development, etc. Outdoor play is a daily event, and use of gym and swimming pool at the Cumberland YMCA occur on a weekly basis, as weather allows. Our aim is to provide a program where the child feels safe, happy, stimulated, and well cared for in an environment designated to help them learn through play Hours are 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Located at 141 Victoria Street in Amherst (Walk In Entrance). Car pickup and drop off at side entrance by Dayle's Department Store.

For ages 4 - 5 years old Kindergarten focuses on the development of the child, physically, intellectually and socially in an inviting environment. Children develop skills at their own pace, making decisions, solving problems, following directions and most importantly, enjoying the process of learning through play. Our program provides children with daily gym time, regular swims and many field trips in our community. Full Time: (4 Days) Monday to Thursday 1:00 - 3:30 pm Part Time: (3 Days) Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00 - 11:30 am Offered in Amherst, Oxford, River Hebert and Pugwash. School Aged Care After School Program For students from Primary to Grade 6 Programs are offered for Cumberland North Academy and Spring St. Academy. The program runs until 5:00 pm (5:30 in select locations) Y-Days Held on In-Service & Storm Days as well as March Break and Christmas Break. A structured day full of fun activities, swim and gym time. Y-Days run from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and are available September through June for children in grades Primary to 6 at the YMCA Early Learning Center in Amherst. Summer Programs Through July & August the Cumberland YMCA offers summer camps Monday to Friday 8:30 - 5:00. These programs offer a wide variety of activities including day trips, swimming, arts & crafts, cooking, and recreational activities including sports, and small and large group games. Summer program runs out of the YMCA Early Learning Center in Amherst. For more information contact the Childcare Department
