Preschool Programs

Preschool
For ages 2 1/2 - 3 Years Old.
Our Preschool program is focused on socialization with age appropriate activities offered in a play based setting. Children develop skills at their own pace, making decisions, solving problems and most importantly enjoying the process of learning. Our aim is to provide a program where the child feels safe, happy, stimulated and satisfied.
This program runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 - 11:00am. Offered in Amherst, Oxford and Pugwash.

Childcare
For children aged 10 months to 5 years.
This program has been designed to encourage socialization with age appropriate activities. Children develop skills at their own pace in areas of creative activities, fine motor, music, movement, science, language development, etc. Outdoor play is a daily event, and use of the gym and swimming pool at the Cumberland YMCA occurs on a weekly basis, as weather allows. Our aim is to provide a program where the child feels safe, happy, stimulated, and well cared for in an environment designed to help them learn through play.

Hours are 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Now located at the New YMCA Early Learning Center at the YMCA, 92 Church St. Amherst.

Courses

Babysitting Course
This YMCA program makes youth ready to look after children, change diapers, learn to feed, safety in the home, responsibilities, basic first aid, games and activities as well as what to do in an emergency situation. For ages 11-14. Registration is required.

Kindergarten
For ages 4-5 years old.
Kindergarten focuses on the development of the child, physically, intellectually and socially in an inviting environment. Children develop skills at their own pace, making decisions, solving problems, following directions, and most importantly, enjoying the process of learning through play. Our program provides children with regular gym time, swim time and many field trips in our community.

School Aged Care

After School Program
For students from Primary to Grade 6

Programs are offered for West Highlands Elementary, Spring Street Academy and Cumberland North Academy.
The program runs until 5:00pm (5:30 in select locations).

Y-Days
Held on In-Service & Storm Days as well as March Break and Christmas Break. A structured day full of fun activities, swim and gym time. Y-Days run from 8:30am to 5:00pm and are available Septemeber through June for children in grades Primarty to 6 at the YMCA Early Learning Center in Amherst.

Summer Programs
Throughout July & August the Cumberland YMCA offers summer camps Monday to Friday 8:30 - 5:00. These programs offer a wide variety of activities including day trips, swimming, arts & crafts, cooking and recreational activities icluding sports, and small and large group games. Summer programs are run out of the YMCA Early Learning Center in Amherst. For more information contact the Childcare Department.
