Health & Fitness Programs

The YMCA of Cumberland offers a variety of Health & Fitness programs for people of all abilities.

'Abs'olutely

An intense ab routine designed to challenge you while working on your core strength goals.

Aqua Classes

A moderate intensity fitness class held in the shallow end of the lap pool. Expect core conditioning, strength training, stretching and more while using the water as resistance, allowing for moves that are easy on joints. Each aqua class varies in intensity and format.

Barre & Sculpt 

Your muscles will be shaking and quaking by the time you finish this intense, core focused routine that targets your entire body. Bar will challenge AND change you with low-impact, easy-to-follow moves that shape and tone your body, inspired by work at a ballet barre. All you need is a secure chair, countertop, or other sturdy household surface. 

Bootcamp

Expect to challenge yourself as you work out bootcamp style, using core conditioning, obstacle courses, drills, strength training, stretching and more.

Cardio Challenge

Move, shake, twist and step yourself into better shape. A low impact class that mixes aerobics with weights and mat work.

Cardio Fusion

This powerful, quick-paced body sculpting class rapidly transitions through targeted sequences to elongate and tone your entire body. Body weighted and strength training moves are fused with your favourite cardio moves. Get ready to sweat!

Cardio Step n Tone

Increase your cardiovascular and strength endurance with a fun, upbeat, challenging class. Cardio Step incorporates both cardio and strength exercises using steppers, putting your whole body to the test!

Chair Fitness / Yoga

A gentle class executed in a chair that promotes mobility, strength, primarily for the upper body and mindfulness.

Circuit Strength 

Back-to-back resistance exercises in 10-minute blocks will challenge your strength and stamina to help you sculpt a lean, defined body. Transition quickly between moves, but do it safely and with good form to squeeze the most out of every rep.  

Core and More 

Designed to build a powerful core; this class will target abs, obliques, and glutes to help improve posture, balance, and stability. This investment in your core enhances your ability to lift heavier and achieve optimal performance in all physical feats. 

Core Strength

A class designed to challenge functional fitness, primarily targeting lower body and core muscles, focusing on strength and mobility improvements.

Cyclefit

This is a dynamic group cycling class. Suitable for all levels, this class will challenge your stamina and push your limits. A 30 minute express class is also offered.

HIIT

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), is a form of interval training. This cardiovascular exercise strategy alternates short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less intense recovery periods.

Line Dancing

Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to have a blast in this class while you learn some new dance steps. This class is for the intermediate-advanced dancer.

Pilates

A class to strengthen your core muscles and improve your posture and balance while focusing on the importance of breathing.

PiYo®

An intense, fast paced class that combines cardio with the flexibility advantages of Yoga and the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates. Bring on the sweat!

POUND®

Rockout. Workout. Channel your inner rockstar with this full body cardio-jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing, and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums. Designed for all fitness levels, POUND® provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rockin’ out! 

Power Pump

A full body sculpting class using adjustable weights, bodybars, bar bells and/or dumbbells with light loads and maximum repetitions, for an intense and effective workout.

STRONG Nation™

Combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. STRONG 30 is a 30-minute class option that packs a total-body workout into 30 minutes. This efficient and focused class helps you fit fitness into any schedule  

Tabata

A form of high intensity interval training; (20 seconds max; 10 seconds rest) this class is a great way to increase cardio and muscular endurance.

Up & Down Beat Strength 

Build and sculpt stronger muscles with rhythm-based moves that optimize time under tension. Grab a few sets of weights and prepare to hit your upper and lower body hard!

Yoga & Meditation

Participants will focus on linking conscious breath with a mindful flow. Students will build strength, flexibility and concentration while cleansing the body and calming the mind.

Zumba Toning®

Zumba Toning® combines targeted body sculpting exercises and high energy cardio with Latin-infused Zumba® moves to create a calorie-torching, strength training, dance fitness party.
